About Colchester K9 Rescue
 
At Colchester K9 Rescue, we are a small, family-run, non-profit animal rescue dedicated to giving dogs and cats a second chance at life. Established in 2023, we work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need, ensuring they receive the care, support, and love they deserve before finding their forever homes.
 
Our rescue is built on a strong ethic of animal welfare. Every decision we make is guided by what is best for the animals in our care, and we are committed to providing the highest standard of care from the moment they arrive with us until they settle into their new homes.
 
We believe every animal deserves a chance, regardless of age, breed, medical condition, or past experiences. Many of the animals that come into our care require additional support, rehabilitation, or medical treatment, but we are committed to giving each one the opportunity to find the loving home they deserve.
 
Where Our Animals Come From
 
Many of the dogs we rescue come from UK pounds, where their time is limited and their future often depends on securing a rescue space. We also help owner-surrendered pets when circumstances change and families can no longer care for them, as well as unclaimed stray dogs and cats that have nowhere else to turn.
 
For many of these animals, rescue is their lifeline. Our aim is to provide safety, stability, and a fresh start, regardless of their background or circumstances.
 
Comprehensive Care and Assessment
 
Every dog and cat that enters our care receives a thorough assessment. We carefully evaluate their health, temperament, and individual needs so that we can provide the best possible support throughout their journey.
As a minimum standard, every animal in our care is:
 

• Vaccinated

• Flea treated

• Worm treated

• Microchipped

• Spayed or neutered (where age and health permit)
   

Each animal also receives a full medical examination by our trusted veterinary team. If any treatment is required, we ensure it is provided promptly and to the highest standard.
 
We are fortunate to work alongside a wonderful network of trusted veterinary professionals who have supported our rescue for many years. Their expertise enables us to provide life-changing treatment and care to animals who often arrive with complex medical needs.
 
In addition to veterinary care, we network with a variety of pet professionals, including trainers, behaviourists, groomers, and welfare specialists, to ensure every animal receives the support they need to prepare for a happy and successful future.
 
A Foster-Based Rescue
 
Colchester K9 Rescue is a foster-based rescue, meaning our animals are cared for in loving family homes rather than a kennel environment wherever possible. This allows animals to decompress, recover, and begin building confidence in a home setting while we learn more about their personalities, behaviours, and individual needs.
 
Foster homes play a vital role in the work we do. Not only do they provide a safe place for animals to heal and adjust, but they also allow us to save more animals by freeing up space for those who urgently need our help.
Our foster carers are an essential part of our rescue family, and we are incredibly grateful for the time, patience, and dedication they give to every animal they welcome into their homes.

Although we are a small rescue, we believe in the power of teamwork. We strive to build a supportive network of volunteers, foster carers, veterinary professionals, adopters, and supporters who all work together with one common goal – improving the lives of animals in need.

Freya 
Owner surrender | Previous leg injury | Now competing in Flyball
Freya, a Whippet cross, came into our care as an owner surrender after suffering a previous broken leg. She required rehabilitation, patience, and support to help her regain her confidence and mobility. Today, Freya is thriving in her forever home and has gone on to become a competitive Flyball dog, proving just how far a second chance can take a dog.










Opie
Pound stray | Emergency tail amputation | Happily adopted
Opie arrived with us as a stray from a local pound. He was frightened, shut down, and in poor condition. One of his most urgent issues was a severely damaged tail that was hanging and causing him significant discomfort. We arranged veterinary treatment immediately, and the following day Opie underwent surgery to have his tail amputated. Following his recovery, Opie blossomed into the happy, affectionate Spaniel he was always meant to be and is now enjoying life with his forever family.













Duchess
Stray pound dog | Severe skin disease | Fully recovered
Duchess, a Bulldog, came into our care from the stray pound suffering from chronic mange and severe skin infections. She was uncomfortable, sore, and desperately needed medical intervention. With the support of our trusted veterinary team and dedicated foster carers, Duchess made an incredible recovery. Her skin healed, her confidence returned, and she found a wonderful forever home where she is now a much-loved and thoroughly spoilt member of the family.

















These are just a few of the many animals we have had the privilege of helping along the way, and we look forward to helping many more in the years to come.
A Rescue Run by Passion, Not Profit

Colchester K9 Rescue is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. Nobody within the rescue receives a wage, salary, or financial reward for the work they do. We do what we do because we are passionate about animal welfare and committed to helping animals in need.

Every penny raised through donations, fundraising events, adoption fees, sponsorships, and community support goes directly back into the operational care of the rescue and the animals we help.
These funds enable us to cover:
 

• Veterinary treatment and emergency care

• Vaccinations, flea and worm treatments

• Microchipping, neutering, and spaying

• Food and essential supplies

• Transport and collection from pounds

• Foster support and welfare costs

• Behavioural assessments and training where required

• Ongoing rehabilitation and specialist care
   

As a volunteer-run rescue, we are committed to transparency and ensuring that all funds raised are used solely for the welfare of the animals in our care. Without the generosity of our supporters, we simply could not continue our work.
